The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) Project Agorá has completed a series of tokenized cross-border payment trials. Twenty-eight financial institutions and central banks participated in the trials, which saw the successful settlement of $1 million in real-value transactions.
The trials involved the use of tokenized central bank reserves and commercial bank deposits, allowing for settlements to be made across six different currencies. This project demonstrates the potential for tokenized assets to facilitate efficient and secure cross-border payments.
According to reporting from CoinTelegraph, the trials mark a significant step forward in the development of cross-border payment systems. The use of tokenized assets has the potential to increase the speed and reduce the cost of international transactions.
